Mike Pott, Fire Chief

Chief Pott has been with South Metro Fire since 1986, when he started as a firefighter for the City of West St. Paul. Prior to being appointed Fire Chief, he served in the roles of Captain, Engineer, and Firefighter.  He previously worked in the private sector and got his start in the fire service at the Lake Elmo Volunteer Fire Department.  He is responsible for the management of the fire department.  In addition to his roles at South Metro, Chief Pott also served as the commander of the Dakota County Special Operations Team, and as a board member and task force leader for Minnesota Task Force 1, the State’s urban search and rescue team.

Mark Erickson, Chief of Operations

Chief Erickson has been in the fire service since 1993, serving as a paid on call firefighter in St. Bonifacius until joining the South St. Paul Fire Department in 1999.  His current responsibilities include oversight of fire suppression and special operations, public information, and information technology. He also serves as a task force leader for Minnesota Task Force 1, the technical rescue coordinator for the Dakota County Special Operations Team, and as a PIO for the MNICS Type 2 Incident Management Team. Outside of the fire service, Mark enjoys photography and spending time in the outdoors with his family. 

Mark Juelfs, Chief of Prevention & EMS

Chief Juelfs has been with South Metro Fire since 1998, when he started as a firefighter for the City of South St. Paul. He came to South St. Paul from the East County Line/Maplewood  Fire Department, where he served from 1994 to 1998.   Chief Juelfs is responsible for oversight of the EMS program, as well as all prevention activities, which include public education, inspections, plan review, and fire investigations.

Mike Nelson, Chief of Training

Chief Nelson has been with South Metro Fire since 2006, when he started as a firefighter for the City of West St. Paul. He began his fire service career as a paid on call firefighter for the City of Savage in 1999.  He has also worked as a firefighter for the cities of Rochester and South St. Paul.  In addition to his training responsibilities at South Metro, Chief Nelson oversee the department's water rescue program and is a certified rescue swimmer instructor.
